Summary 
The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and staffing; recruiting; administering pay, benefits, and leaves of absence; develop and oversee performance reviews; enforcing company policies and practices; ensuring effective employee relations, organizational development, training, and change management strategies; manage relationship with employee unions and interact in union matters/disputes as necessary.  This position is responsible for taking the lead on all employee issues and providing day-to-day direction relating to such issues. The goal is to ensure the HR department’s operations will be running smoothly and effectively to deliver maximum value to the organization. 
 
Responsibilities 
  • Provide personnel policy and procedure guidance to employees and management. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements. 
  • Administer compensation and assist with benefit plans. 
  • Conduct employee onboarding and help organize training & development initiatives. 
  • Provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as leaves and compensation and resolve any issues that may arise. 
  • Promote HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace. 
  • Undertake tasks around performance management. 
  • Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics, including time to hire and employee turnover rates. 
  • Organize quarterly and annual employee performance reviews. 
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form. 
  • Enhance job satisfaction by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits and organizing team building activities. 
  • Administer the Company’s Alcohol, Cannabis, and Drug Testing and Prevention Program. 
  • Develop and maintain all required equal employment opportunity, diversity, and anti-discrimination programs, file EEO-1 annually, maintain all records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO regulations. 
  • Perform administration processing and approval of transactions, data input, and verification of required documentation. 
  • Represents the Company during unemployment hearings and appeals. 
  • Conducts and documents employee relations and misconduct investigations for business areas. 
  • Maintain all personnel records in accordance with EEO, privacy, and related requirements. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 
 
Physical Requirements 
  • Standing, walking, bending, and sitting for extended periods are required to perform basic office functions and field visits. 
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds for filing and other record-keeping duties. 
  • Keyboarding skills that reduce the risk of carpal tunnel and other office related injuries. 
  • Ability to travel via ground, rail, and air. 

Environmental Conditions 
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, dusty environments, and equipment fumes. 
  • General office environment. 
 
Requirements and Skills 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the human resources field. 
  • Understanding of state and federal employment regulations. 
  • Awareness of OSHA regulations and compliance. 
  • Understanding of personnel and compliance records management. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
 
Education and Experience Requirements 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field. 
  • 3-5 years human resources experience. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook). 
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
